Promising Winner for Peltzer

Tara Madgwick - Thursday October 30

Michael Freedman trained his first winner for Champion Thoroughbreds on Thursday at Wyong and promising Peltzer gelding Sir Loyne won in a manner to suggest there is much more to come.

Fifth on debut at the start of the month in a strong midweek maiden won by subsequent Group winner Shangri La Boy with Victoria Derby contender Providence in third place, Sir Loyne bounced out of that run to finish a strong second at Hawkesbury over 1600m.

On that occasion he bumped into another highly rated horse in $1.5million Dundeel 3YO Columbus, but at Wyong on Thursday Sir Loyne found his opportunity to shine in the 1625m maiden.

Sent off favourite with Regan Bayliss on board, Sir Loyne led from the outset and was never challenged, cruising home to win by three and a half lengths.

Stable representative Sophie Johnson was full of praise for Sir Loyne.

“He’s taken that little bit of time to mature and find his feet and he put it all together today which was good to see,” she said.

“He pricked his ears to the line and it was great to get that first winner for Champion Thoroughbreds as well.”

An $80,000 Magic Millions purchase from Twin Hills Stud for Champion Thoroughbreds, Sir Loyne is a half-brother to Group III winner Vagrant and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from My Obsession.

A metro winning half-sister by Lonhro to stakes-winner Given from the family of Group I winner Ugo Foscolo, My Obsession was bought by Twin Hills Stud for $110,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and has done a great job.

She has a yearling filly for the 2026 sales by Justify (USA).

Sir Loyne is the fifth winner for Twin Hills Stud’s young So You Think stallion Peltzer with his winners highlighted by stakes-winner Buccleuch and G3 placed Thanks Gorgeous.
