A quality packed catalogue for the 2025 NZB Ready to Run Sale (November 12 and 13) is online with breeze up video now in place and in the lead up to the sale we’ll go looking each week for some horses of interest that jump out on pedigree for various reasons.

The latest stakes-winner to emerge from this sale is talented staying 3YO Azazel, who booked his ticket this Saturday’s $2million Group I VRC Victoria Derby (2500m) with a win in the Listed Geelong Classic last week.

His Melbourne Cup winning sire Shocking is a well proven source of Group I horses including the likes of $8million earner I’m Thunderstruck, who won a Golden Eagle and was second in Anamoe’s Cox Plate.

Shocking has three entries for the sale:

Lot 97 Colt Shocking x Seonia, by Sebring – Henley Park

Half-brother to two winners from a half-sister to stakes-winner Japhils going back to the family of Irish Oaks winner Give Thanks.

Lot 288 Gelding Shocking x Cristal Heights by O’Reilly – Di Leoni Equine

Half-brother to two winners and comes from the famed Heights family that has produced Group I winners such as Sky Heights and Mapperley Heights. He is bred on a very successful nick that has produced four SW’s for Shocking including multiple G1 winner El Vencedor and it runs at 18% SW to runner.

Lot 412 Colt Shocking x Kiara, by Pentire (GB) – Leanach Lodge

From an unraced sister to two time NZ Horse of the Year Mufhasa with the family also procuring G1 winners The Bostonian and Kovalica.

A champion son of Dubawi as is leading young sire Too Darn Hot (GB), Ghaiyyath (IRE) is making a real impression now his oldest Australian progeny have turned three and has had three Australian stakes-winners this spring which is more than any other second crop sire.

The best of them so far has been Observer, who won the Group II MVRC Moonee Valley Vase last Saturday to earn him favouritism for this week’s Group I VRC Victoria Derby at Flemington.

Ghaiyyath has two youngsters from his second crop catalogued this year and both of them breezed in sub 11 seconds.

Half-brother to two winners and is fourth foal of a winning sister to Group I winning sprinter Amber Sky from Group II winner Truly Wicked.

The 2025 edition of the Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre on Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 November with all breeze up video now uploaded for viewing
