Consistency Key On Day One of 2025 Breeze Ups

Media Release - Monday October 20

After the rescheduling of dates for NZB’s anticipated 2025 Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups, Day One kicked off on Monday at Te Rapa Racecourse with consistent times, weather and track conditions.

184 two-year-olds breezed up across the course of the first day, with an average time of 10.88 recorded.

A brief shower was experienced early on Day One, but fine weather followed with wind gusts increasing in the evening up to 5.9 m/s (21.2 km/h).

Day 2 of Breeze Ups continue Tuesday at 10am.

Te Rapa Racecourse Track Manager Bart Cowan commented on the track conditions.

“I think the helicopter that went around and dried the track out yesterday afternoon improved it to a point that got us back to the Soft 6 range. If NZB hadn’t done that, we would have likely been in a heavier range.”

“We are quite confident with the strong wind drying it out this evening, that it will continue to improve by tomorrow.”

NZB’s Bloodstock Sales Manager Kane Jones was on hand to witness the juveniles parading.

“It has been pleasing to see the track play so consistently throughout the day, as seen by the steady times, allowing these well-educated two-year-olds to be showcased to their best advantage.”

“The horses paraded in great condition, and the quality and consistency we have seen today is testament to the skill and professionalism of our preparers.”

The Breeze Ups continue on Tuesday at Te Rapa Racecourse, with Day Two commencing at 10am and all welcome to attend.

The official 200m Breeze Up time for each lot can be found on NZB’s website alongside the weather conditions, track conditions and wind speed experienced during each lot’s gallop.

The official Breeze Up footage will be available to view on NZB’s website by Friday 24 October, followed by the full program aired on Trackside in New Zealand and Racing.com Australia.
