Pedigree Potential –NZB Ready to Run – Nicks that Click

A quality packed catalogue for the 2025 NZB Ready to Run Sale is now online and in the lead up to the sale we’ll go looking each week for some horses of interest that jump out on pedigree for various reasons.

G1 racing in Australia last weekend again had a distinctly Kiwi flavour with the G1 King Charles Stakes (1600m) delivering a Kiwi bred trifecta (Ceolwulf, Mr Brightside, Pier) and the $20million G1 Everest delivered a first and third for Ka Ying Rising and Jimmysstar.

Throw in a quinella in the $1million Silver Eagle for Linebacker and Lord Penman and you can see why Australian buyers will be headed in their droves to Karaka next month.

Ceolwulf was purchased from this sale by his trainer Joe Pride for $170,000 and while there are sadly no more offspring from his much-missed sire Tavistock there are a couple of entries from mares by his broodmare sire Shamardal.

An elite global sire that runs at 75% winners to runners and 12% SW to runner, Shamardal is leaving quite the legacy through his sire sons and also his daughters.

Shamardal mares have produced 140 SW’s including 18 G1 winners headed by NZ Horse of the Year and ten time G1 winner Imperatriz.

The two entries below are from mares by Shamardal.

Lot 110 Gelding Bivouac x Shrill (GB), by Shamardal – Riversley Park

By the sire of G1 Golden Rose winner Beiwacht from stakes-placed Shrill, a half-sister to Group winenrs Silent Honor and Silkwood.

Lot 355 Colt Alabama Express x Ghadaayer (IRE), by Shamardal – St Kilda Lodge

By the sire of Champion 3YO Filly Treasurethe Moment from a winning daughter of G2 placed Eldalil from the family of multiple G1 winner Rebel’s Romance.

Ka Ying Rising is the world's best sprinter and he is a Kiwi bred - image Bradley Photos

The world’s best sprinter is Everest hero Ka Ying Rising and while his sire Shamexpress is not as fertile as Windsor Park Stud would like there is no doubting his ability to get a very good horse.

Ka Ying Rising is one of 15 SW’s for the speed son of O’Reilly, who runs at 6.5% SW to runner and has four entries for the sale as listed below.

Lot 96 Gelding Shamexpress x Sensibility, by Savabeel – Riversley Park

Lot 193 Gelding Shamexpress x Wicket Maiden, by Power (GB) –Prima Park

Lot 373 Gelding Shamexpress x High Tail It, by High Chaparral (IRE) – Phoenix Park

Lot 410 Gelding Shamexpress x Kewzero, by Perfectly Ready – Seivwright Bloodstock

The 2025 edition of the Sale will take place at the Karaka Sales Centre on Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 November with Breeze Ups to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse this week.
