Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Friday October 17

Two heats for juveniles at Warwick Farm on Friday morning produced a couple of interesting winners with a quinella for a pair of blueblood Wootton Bassett (GB) fillies and a smart win for a good looking colt by Ole Kirk.

The Blake Ryan trained colt Green Kirk made it two trial outings for two wins with a thoroughly professional effort. He mustered speed quickly to hold the fence and lead before kicking clear and was then held together to the line to win by a neck over Lord Elrond, who was pushed along.

Green Kirk was a $320,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Magus Equine and was the highest priced yearling by his sire Ole Kirk at that sale. He has plenty of quality in his pedigree and is from well bred Snitzel mare Snit Ball, a sister to Group I winning 2YO Summer Passage from the family of Shania Dane.

The fillies clocked a slightly slower time with the Peter Snowden trained Pearl of Dubai improving on her first trial fourth placing at the start of the month to win her heat by a long neck over Somerford, another filly by Wootton Bassett having her second trial.

A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Pearl of Dubai is a half-sister to dual Group I winner Pride of Dubai, Group II winner Enaad and SW’s Ghanaati and Al Aneed.

Pearl of Dubai as a foal.

She is the second last foal from the now retired exceptional producer Al Anood, who has had 12 named foals, nine to race and eight winners with her very last foal being a yearling filly by Home Affairs born last spring at Segenhoe.
