Fifth Stakes Winner for Duporth

Mark Smith - Sunday May 13

Wyong based trainer Tracy Bartley took three horses to the Scone carnival and all came away winners, the final of which was the Duporth gelding To Excess who could hardly have been any more impressive in the Listed Arrowfield Stud Ortensia Stakes (1100m).

Ridden by Jay Ford, To Excess finished powerfully to defeat Le Cordon Bleu (Snitzel) by two and a quarter lengths with Spending To Win (Snitzel) three-quarters of a length back in third. (photo Steve Hart)

"I think this is a Group horse. He had no weight on his back and I know he had all the favours but he let down terrific," Bartley said.

"This horse has plenty ahead of him. We'll go home and see what his rating jumps to before we decide if we stay home for the sprints over the winter or go north to Brisbane."

Off the board in just three of his 14 starts, To Excess advances his record to 6 wins, 4 seconds and 1 third with earnings of $244,120.

A $60,000 purchase out of the Monarch Stud draft at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book, To Excess is the first foal out of the unraced Rock Of Gibraltar mare, Montclair.

A half-sister to the stakes-placed Woody 'n' Buzz, Montclair is a daughter of the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude winner My Flashing Star (Snippets) who is a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River.

Monarch Stud will consign a Declaration Of War (USA) colt out of Montclair to the upcoming Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

Montclair has a weanling colt by Deep Impact (JPN) but missed to the son of Deep Impact last spring.

To Excess becomes the fifth stakes-winner for Kooringal Stud's Duporth who covered 71 mares last spring at a fee of $7,700.
