Osbourne Bulls Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Saturday May 12

Godolphin's retained trainer James Cummings has patiently guided the promising Osborne Bulls through the grades but the gloves may now be coming off after the son of Street Cry (IRE) recorded his maiden stakes win in Saturday's Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m).

Near the tail of the field when turning for home, Rachel King weaved between runners on Osborne Bulls who didn't flinch, hitting the line strongly to defeat the veteran Red Excitement by a half-length with Invincible Gem running on strongly for third a long-neck further back. (photo Steve Hart)

It advances the record of Osborne Bulls to 7 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from 10 starts with earnings of $304,280.

"He's been in scintillating form and it's encouraging to see him get to that next level," assistant trainer Darren Beadman said.

"He's proven to us he is worthy of something bigger.

"I think Rachel has only had about four rides for us for three wins. I told her to treat him with a bit of TLC and as long as you keep him one off the fence he's got that explosive turn of foot that you saw today.

"I don't know what James's plans are but he has placed this horse extremely well in order for him to get his confidence so I'm sure he will have something in store for him."

A half-brother to the stakes-placed Badajoz (Commands), Osborne Bulls is the second foal of the Listed Ramornie Handicap winner Jerezana (Lonhro).

The third foal of Jerezana is the 3yo Exceed And Excel gelding Sedition who won at Rosehill last week.

Jerezana has a yearling colt by Brazen Beau and was covered by that stallion last spring after missing to Epaulette in 2016.

Osborne Bulls becomes the 118th stakes winner for Street Cry (IRE) who died in 2014.
