National Thoroughbred Week invites support through GoFundMe campaign

Media Release - Tuesday October 7

National Thoroughbred Week (NTW) is calling on the thoroughbred community and broader public to be part of history, with the launch of a GoFundMe campaign to help bring this inaugural celebration to life.

Set to showcase the horses, people, and stories that make up Australia and New Zealand’s world-class thoroughbred industry, National Thoroughbred Week will run from 20th - 24th November 2025 to shine a spotlight on the sport’s contribution to culture, communities, and the economy.

While major sponsorships and partnerships form the backbone of the event, the GoFundMe initiative provides an opportunity for everyone—from owners pledging a portion of prizemoney, to punters, fans, and supporters—to contribute at any level.

“This is an event for the public to connect with our industry, which in turn benefits all of us,” said NTW spokesperson Tai Ryan.

“This event is off the ground thanks to a huge amount of donated time from our volunteers. Whilst we’ve actively been sourcing sponsorships, we realised we needed another avenue, like GoFundMe, to allow those who might not have the capacity to come on as a major partner to still play a part in making National Thoroughbred Week a success.”

Contributions raised through the campaign will go directly towards the practical costs of making NTW happen, such as event branding and signage, visitor information and educational materials, website and registration management, and on-the-ground support for volunteer hosts and their guests. All this ensures the event is accessible, inclusive, and impactful across the nation.

The NTW fundraising target is $7,000. For comparison, the UK Racehorse Week has an annual budget of GBP £200,000.
