$1million Stay Inside Colt Wins G3 Breeders Plate

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 4

Newgate Farm’s Golden Slipper winning sire Stay Inside got the perfect result with his first runner as $1million Magic Millions purchase Incognito scored a determined win in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday in the James Harron Bloodstock colours.

Trained by Michael Freedman as was his sire Stay Inside, Incognito was placed at the official 2YO trials last month and took improvement from that outing.

Tommy Berry rode him in that trial and kept the ride on race day, allowing the colt to settle off the pace before chiming in with a good finish to beat Home Affairs colt I’m Ya Huckleberry by half a length with Hellbent colt Revengeance a late closing third.

"It's a big thrill to win a race like this, but to win it with a son of a colt (Stay Inside) that we trained to win the (2021) Golden Slipper is an extra big thrill," said Michael Freedman.

"You know, Incognito's always really impressed us at home. He's always shown he's got a good turn of foot, which he showed in the trial, but I think he just got up beside those other horses and was having a bit of a look at them.

"So, we worked him with an older horse here on Tuesday morning to give him something to sort of aim up on, and it was vastly different.

"He sat off the back of him and worked past him and did it well, so I thought if we could replicate that today, you know, we'd be thereabouts."

The Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January is a possible target race for Incognito.

"We'll have a chat with James (Harron) and the crew as Incognito is a Magic Millions graduate, so I guess that is a possibility," Freedman said.

"Otherwise, a nice break and then start focusing on the autumn."

Bred by Black Soil Bloodstock and offered in the Eureka Stud draft at Magic Millions, Incognito sold for $1million to James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership/Tony Fung Colts making him the most expensive yearling by his sire Stay Inside.

He is the second foal and first winner from Bleu Zebra, a metro winning half-sister by I Am Invincible to stakes-winner Fox Swift.

Bleu Zebra has a yearling filly by Pinatubo (IRE) and has foaled this spring producing a colt by Eureka Stud’s young gun Extreme Choice stallion Don Corleone.

Stay Inside stands at a fee of $66,000 this spring.
