Mogumber Park hoists wet sail with Marine One

Media Release - Friday October 3

This time last year, the first foals by Mogumber Park stallion Marine One were widely regarded as some of the best types on the ground in Western Australia.

Twelve months on, they’ve continued to develop into eye-catching yearlings and that would have been evident when the Magic Millions team visited Mogumber Park recently to assess its entries for the 2026 Perth Sale in February.

“Their progress as a group has been enormous,” Mogumber Park’s Colin Brown said on Thursday.  “We just brought them in from the paddock for photos and after a proper prep they will be a highlight the 28 yearling we’ve nominated for the Magic Millions in February.

“The majority weighed between 52kgs and 60kgs as foals and are just like their Dad…strong with good bone and great conformation and really good brains on them.  The feedback has been positive from all who have seen them.”

Marine One represents the escalating Written Tycoon sireline through Capitalist and he was a $500,000 buy for Lloyd Kennewell at the 2020 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He jumped the blocks with a debut placing in the G3 VRC Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) at Flemington and trained on to land the G2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

Mogumber Park stands him with Hunter Valley-based Kingstar Farm and China Horse Club.

“Marine One certainly fits the profile for a successful stallion over here,” Brown said after sealing the deal.  “To have their support is a massive endorsement or our farm and the wider industry in WA.”

The Marine One – Clarecastle yearling colt is a half-brother to nine winners with last-season’s star 2yo Castle Road (Safeguard) topping that list in the LR Perth Stakes (1100m) at Ascot in April.  One of those nine winners – Castle Queen (Oratorio) – also has a yearling colt by Marine One.

“They’re mid to late October foals and both have the right structure to keep developing,” Brown predicted.  “We bred Castle Queen’s current 2yo, Sovereign Rock, and he won a Belmont barrier trial on Tuesday.  He’s by Awesome Rock whose stock aren’t usually seen before Xmas.”

Awesome Rock stands at Gold Front Thoroughbreds for owners Alan and Sue Olive and they’ve supported Marine One with mares like their dual Ascot winner Prue (Slater).  “They’re lovely-natured with good bone and good looks,” Sue said.  “Hopefully, they run as good as they look!”

Mogumber also has a cracking colt out of Magical Charge (Magic Albert) whose Farnan colt was purchased by Trevor Andrews for $125,000 this year.  She has just had a positive test to Switzerland.

Marine One colt from Notjustaprettyface.

There’s also Marine One colt from Notjustaprettyface that is a half-brother to Green Shadows (Menari) who was a 2yo winner at Eagle Farm before training on to score at Randwick and Warwick Farm for Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.

Marine One colt from Coast to the Post.

The half-brother to G2 Karrakatta Plate placegetter Miss West Coast (Safeguard) from Coast to the Post gives every indication he will develop into one of the star lots at the 2026 Perth Magic Millions.  “He’s a laid-back colt and is one of our favourites,” Brown said.  “Their dam Coast To The Post (Anabaa) was placed in a (LR) Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Randwick and the second-dam Nanny Maroon won four Listed races up to 1400m in the Dark Jewel Classic at Scone.”

Successful Westspeed breeder Ian Riley has a Marine One yearling colt that definitely won’t be seeing the Swan Valley sale-ring in February.  He’s a younger half-brother to Riley’s homebred G2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) winner Talkanco, who was a unanimous choice as 2024-25 WA 2YO Of The Year.

“Talkanco will resume in the Max Simmonds Stakes (1000m) on October 11,” Riley revealed.  “I was very happy with her barrier trial on Tuesday but they might be a bit slick for her first-up.  It will be a good lead-in to the (LR) Belgravia Stakes (1200m) a fortnight later and then we will decide whether to keep her sprinting or stretch out for the (G2) WA Guineas (1600m).

“Her dam Calianco (California Dane) is due to foal a Rich Enuff and she will go to Capitalist this year.  Her Marine One colt is at Woodside Park and he’s an outstanding yearling.  He’s a good size and will race for many of the same family and friends that are in Talkanco."

Marine One may also have a presence at the 2026 Adelaide Yearling Sale. “That consignment could include some of ours and other shareholders’ yearlings,” Colin Brown said.  “It’s important we give Marine One as much interstate exposure as possible.”  One of the highlights will be the Kingstar Farm colt from Kistos (Pierro) who is from a half-sister to the dam of Group 1 racehorse and sire Starspangledbanner (Choisir).

Mogumber Park stands Marine One ($7,000) alongside Safeguard ($4,400).  Both service fees (inc GST).  For bookings or more information call Colin Brown on 0408 251 880.
