Scone Cup Winner for Sebring

Tara Madgwick - Friday May 11
The $200,000 Darley Scone Cup was won on Friday by progressive Sebring mare Sedanzer, a $125,000 Magic Millions purchase for Blueblood Thoroughbreds from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft.

Sedanzer wins the Scone CupTrained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Sedanzer (image Steve Hart)  has always promised to win a stakes races and kept her unbeaten second up from a spell record intact when outgunning last year's winner Duca Valentinois to win the 1600 metre feature by a neck with Tim Clark in the saddle.

"She was a bit plain at Hawkesbury (first up in the Godolphin Crown), so it was a great effort by Gai and Adrian to turn her around," said Tim Clark.

"She appreciated more ground and she has a great will to win. She pinned her ears back and was determined.

"She was really on song today."

Sedanzer has done an outstanding job for her big team of owners and has the overall record of seven wins from just 16 starts with prizemoney a topping $585,000.

Bred by Three Bridges in partnership with Richard Pegum, Sedanzer is a half-sister to stakes-placed So Detached and is one of three winners from Voltdanze, a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Dealer Principal.

Voltdanze has a weanling colt by Unencumbered and is back in foal to him again.

Sedanzer is the 42nd stakes-winner for Widden Stud's flagship sire Sebring, who stands this spring at a fee of $66,000.
