The rise of Caulfield Cup favourite Half Yours as one of the most promising young stayers in the land has put the spotlight on his sire St Jean (IRE).

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Half Yours broke his maiden last July and has made a steady progress through the grades winning the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) during the winter by four and a half lengths.

He scored a dominant win last Saturday in the Group III MRC Naturalism Stakes (2000m) earning ballot free exemption for the Caulfield Cup and winning rider Jamie Melham is sticking with the five year-old gelding.

She will partner him in the Group I VRC Turnbull Stakes on October 4 and then the Group I MRC  Caulfield Cup (2400m) on October 18 in which he will carry 52.5kg.

St Jean (IRE) has earned a fee increase to $10,000 plus GST

Half Yours is the first stakes-winner among 12 winners from just 22 starters sired by Group winning Teofilo stallion St Jean (IRE), who stands at Brackley Park in Victoria.

A superbly bred stallion with an elite European female pedigree, St Jean claims Group I winning blue hen Height of Fashion as his third dam and his sire Teofilo has left 120 SW’s worldwide including Australian G1 winners such as Melbourne Cup heroes Without a Fight (IRE) and Cross Counter (GB), plus the likes of Happy Clapper, Kermadec and Palentino.

St Jean has only covered very small books of mares at a fee of $3,300 up until now, but the emergence of Half Yours has led his owner to increase his service fee to $10,000 plus GST.
