Seeking Slipper Success? Seek Sejardan

Media Release - Tuesday September 23

The Gr.1 Golden Slipper Stakes - the world's richest juvenile event and Australia's premier test of juvenile speed.

Things didn't quite go Sejardan's way when he contested, as one of the favourites, in the 2022 edition of the 1200m dash - finding plenty of in trouble in running - but nothing could detract from the fact that he was a brilliant two-year-old and easily one of that season's best.

A win by a son or daughter of Sejardan in the Golden Slipper would certainly make up for his bad luck in the race and there are not too many stallions around with the sort of credentials he has in regard to siring a Slipper horse.

His sire Sebring won the 2008 Golden Slipper as did that high class stallion's relation Baguette in 1970. Sebring's dam sire Flying Spur held off Octagonal in the 1995 running whilst his second dam sire Luskin Star was brilliant in 1977.

Sejardan's dam sire Hinchinbrook finished right on the heels of the placegetters in the 2010 Slipper won by Crystal Lily, whilst Sejardan's third dam sire Danzero was too fast for St Covet when successful in 1994.

There are eight Golden Slipper runners who feature within four generations of Sejardan's pedigree... and four of them won the race!

And this two-year-old story gets all the better when looking at subsequent generations. When delving into Sejardan’s first four generations as a whole you’d certainly expect to find juvenile success considering his genetic make up, but the sheer number of juvenile stakes winners is extraordinary….. 464 individual two-year-old stakes winners! Think juvenile success, think Sejardan.

Sejardan is one of the 22 stakes winning juveniles sired by Sebring whose daughter Bring Me The Maid flashed home for an eye-catching Slipper third behind Mossfun in 2014.

An impressive 72.6% of Sebring's two-year-old runners are winners, 7% stakes winners. And he is one of the 85 two-year-old stakes winners sired by More Than Ready, seven of whom were successful at the elite level including the 2009 Slipper winner Phelan Ready and the race's placegetters Samaready and Elite Falls.

There is even more Slipper form in Sejardan's dam Miss Amajardan, who is amongst the 78 juvenile runners sired by Hinchinbrook, 11 of whom are stakes winners. And he is one of the 41 stakes winning two-year-olds sired by Fastnet Rock, seven of whom won Gr.1 races at that age... he also being the dam sire of last year's Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot. Hinchinbrook is a 3/4 brother to Snitzel - sire of 62 two-year-old stakes winners including eight Gr.1 winners, a tally which includes the Golden Slipper winners Estijaab, Shinzo and Marhoona... plus he is the dam sire of Mossfun.

Every Golden Slipper winner for the past 13 years has something in common with Sejardan, and all but 13 of its winners (the race first run in 1957) share some sort of genetic link with him.

Sebring, Flying Spur, Luskin Star, Danzero, Vain, Todman... Golden Slipper winners.

More Than Ready, Flying Spur, Kaoru Star, Danehill, Rego, Danzero, Century, Vain, Todman, Wilkes, Star Kingdom... sires of Golden Slipper winners.

Each of the Golden Slipper winners within Sejardan's pedigree boast significant female line-breeding patterns - something that gives a stallion genetic oomph! It's the same with Sejardan with his lovely 4 X 5 cross of the terrific mare Rolls via her son Flying Spur and grandson Encosta de Lago plus duplications of the breed shaping matriarchs Natalma and Almahmoud.

Want to cheer home a Golden Slipper winner? Sejardan is your man!
