So You Think First and Third in G3 Tibbie

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 19

So You Think is running hot as we head through the spring and produced first and third in the $250,000 Group III Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle on Friday with brilliant mare Oh Diamond Lil snaring her first Black Type victory.

Trained by David Pfieffer and ridden by Rachel King, Oh Diamond Lil was first up from a break having won back-to-back races at Randwick over 1600m in July.

Well rated in front, she found her rhythm and was way too strong at the finish kicking on to win by a length over Group winner Verona Rose (Castelvecchio) with another So You Think mare in Tuileries snatching third place.

“She's done her traditional thing, she rolled forward and she got into a good rhythm and that was the key thing—it's just getting into that rhythm,” said David Pfieffer.

“Obviously, she got a pretty soft couple of furlongs and that probably helped her, but she was tough in the straight and she's proven that in the past. Hopefully, it'll be a good campaign.

“She's never going to sprint off the mark, but she just builds with her speed and then probably finds another solid gear and just keeps going.

The 65th stakes-winner for So You Think, Oh Diamond Lil took her overall record to seven wins and five placings from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $585,000.

“To win a Group 3 sets her up nicely for a future stud career and her upcoming campaign, Pfieffer added.

“We have a few options; there's obviously the Angst Stakes and we’re going to look at something like the Five Diamonds Prelude.”

Oh Diamond Lil was a $200,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Maluka Thoroughbreds for David Pfieffer Racing / Koolman Bloodstock and has a big ownership group that includes Arthur Inglis, who was at the track.

She is one of four winners from five to race from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Rare Diamond, who died in 2023 and her last foal is a two year-old colt by So You Think.

The leading sire of winners so far this season with 35 on the board, So You Thinks stands at a fee of $44,000 at Coolmore this spring.
