Melbourne Cup Weights Revealed – Revelare Camp Will be Happy!

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday September 16

Listeners to our Tara Talks Racing podcast will be pleased to hear that Revelare, whose co-owner and breeder Colleeen Bamford was our guest this week has gotten exactly the weight his owners were hoping for.

The handicapper has given the strapping son of So You Think 51.5 kg with the top weight of 59kg an honour shared by our reigning Australian Horse of the Year via Sistina (IRE) and the Joseph O’Brien trained stallion Al Riffa.

The five year-old son of Wootton Bassett won the Group I Irish St Leger on Sunday and interestingly the winner of the Group I English St Leger at Doncaster is also among the entries with progressive three year-old Justify colt Scandinavia given 55.5kg.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Scandinavia won the Group I Goodwood Cup (2m) two starts back beating older stayers and then scored a tenacious victory in the St Leger on Saturday.

His Doncaster victory provided his sire Justify with a piece of history as the US Triple Crown winner has now sired the winners of all three legs of the iconic UK Triple Crown with City of Troy winning last year’s Epsom Derby and then this year the ill-fated Ruling Court won the 2000 Guineas and now Scandinavia has written his name into the record as a St Leger winner.

Last year’s winner Knight’s Choice was given 55kg, up by 3.5kg on the modest 51.5kg he carried last year, while the Waterhouse /Bott stable dynamic duo Vauban (Fr) and Sir Delius (IRE) have 56.5kg and 55.5kg respectively.

Runaway Australian Derby winner Aeliana has been given 53kg with her first two runs back this spring outstanding, so all eyes will be on her when she steps up in trip.
