$600,000 Ole Kirk Share Tops Inglis Digital September (Early) Online Sale

Media Release - Wednesday September 10

Shares in leading young stallions Ole Kirk and Southport Tycoon dominated bidding in today’s Inglis Digital September (Early) Online Sale, finishing as the two highest-priced lots.

The Ole Kirk share topped the sale, selling to Eric Yeung for $600,000.

The 1% share result sees Ole Kirk valued at an astonishing $60,000,000 following today’s auction.

Yeung also purchased the share in Southport Tycoon, which he paid $180,000 for.

Adam White of Vinery Stud – which offered the Ole Kirk share on behalf of a client – was delighted with the outcome, saying the decision to offer the share in the reigning Champion First Season Sire via Inglis Digital was an easy one to make.

“The great thing about Inglis Digital is you can trade something like a stallion share whenever it suits you really,’’ White said.

“This one was owned by an outside shareholder and they were in a position where they weren’t really able to use it so it made sense to trade it while the stallion is really hot and they’ve got a great result today.

“Ole Kirk has obviously started off with a bang and he’s a very exciting young stallion going forward and one I think the entire industry collectively agrees is the case.

“We all saw what he did as a racehorse, a dual G1 winner at three so there’s a lot more to come.

“It’s all very timely really, we saw a horse [Regal Award] win at Sandown just prior to the finish of the auction today and he’s one that came off the farm and set a new Class Record today, so the next wave of them are coming now.

“I was surprised with the price to be fair. It’s a lot of money. But I guess you can’t get into the horse, this is the only way to get in and he’s obviously started the new season very well with a run of winners heading into the spring so it’s great to be able to welcome a new investor into him today.’’

For Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth, the sale was another feather in the cap of the Inglis Digital platform.

“There were three individual bidders over $500,000 on the Ole Kirk share, which was already well over the reserve price, so the demand was very, very strong,’’ Melmeth said.

“We have lobbied hard to have the opportunity to sell a share in the stallion, so we are very grateful for the opportunity to bring it to market and ultimately ecstatic with the result, noting the only other share offered at public auction realised $460,000 in May.

“Our feeling is that there is scope for more frequent trade of stallion shares and breeding rights through the platform and results like these today only serve to reaffirm that belief.’’

The next top lots in today’s sale were shared at $135,000 – Cannon Hayes Stud bought the broodmare Nags To Riches and Darby Racing purchased the 5YO race mare Catahoula.

Cannon Hayes’ Dave Morrissey confirmed Nags To Riches would visit popular young Coolmore stallion and Easter Yearling Sale graduate Home Affairs this season.

“You’re always hoping to get them for less but she’s worth what she’s worth I suppose,’’ Morrissey said.

“I think Home Affairs is a great match for her.’’

In total the September (Early) Sale grossed $3,376,950 with Catahoula ($135,000 to Darby Racing), Nags To Riches ($135,000 to Cannon Hayes Stud), Exclusivity ($130,000 to Harry McAlpine), Secret Galaxy ($130,000 to Lofty Thoroughbreds), Anjeo ($120,000 to Sunlight Trust) and Idolised ($100,000 to Geisel Park) joining the stallion shares as six-figure lots.

Entries are now open for the September (Late) Sale, which will run from September 19-24.

Entries will remain open until midnight next Wednesday, September 17.

Today’s sale follows another successful weekend of racing for Inglis Digital graduates locally and internationally.

At Moonee Valley, the success of Baraqiel in the G1 Moir Stakes proved a fantastic result for Anne Yates, Christopher White and Peter & Nick King, who through Inglis Digital purchased 7.5%, 5% and 5% shares in the horse for $3750, $14,000 and $11,000 respectively.

While in Korea on Sunday, Self Improvement (Deep Field), which was purchased by KK Bloodstock for $105,000 through the January (Early) Online Sale in 2023 and repatriated to Hong Kong, won the valuable G3 Korea Sprint for trainer Manfred Man.

He becomes the first Australian-bred horse to win an international G3 in Korea.
