Turangga Farm Stakes Run Continues

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 6
A stakes double last Saturday for Turangga Farm bred Glenall and Let Me Sleep On It was a pre-cursor for even more stakes success with exciting Not a Single Doubt  filly Champagne Cuddles scoring a track record breaking win in the Group III Gold Coast Guineas on Saturday.

The Bjorn Baker trained filly was having her first run back from a lengthy spell having not raced since finishing second in the Group I ATC Flight Stakes to Alizee and second in the Group I ATC Golden Rose to Trapeze Artist during the spring.

Champagne CuddlesForm like that always made her appear a class above her rivals for this 1200 metre assignment and she duly had their measure, forging clear of Whypeeo to win by a length in a course record breaking 1:07.65.

"There's no more deserving horse of this victory," said Bjorn Baker, who has patiently brought the filly back to racing following surgery for bone chips in a fetlock.

"She's top class and you only have to look through her form through the spring to see she did an amazing job.

"She's hard not to love this filly. She's got a great attitude."

Bred by Turangga Farm and consigned to the Magic Millions, Champagne Cuddles was passed in shy of her $200,000 reserve and is leased by Champagne Ladies Syndicate, a big syndicate of very happy women including members of the Ramsey family.

Surprisingly her Guineas victory was her first Black Type win, Champagne Cuddles now boasting the impressive record of three wins and five placings from eight starts with prizemoney topping $630,000.

Not a Single DoubtChampagne Cuddles is the second last foal for Turangga Farm legend Sky Cuddle, who died in 2016.

Bred and retained to race by Stuart Ramsey, Sky Cuddle won the Group I VRC Emirates Stakes and was the best of five stakes-winners from the farm's blue hen producer Suggestive, so it is lovely to see Champagne Cuddles gaining Black Type and adding further success to this terrific female family.

Champagne Cuddles is the 56th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud's Not a Single Doubt, who stands this year at $99,000, the highest fee for which he has ever stood.
