Sunlight’s Sister Clean Energy Retired

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 4

The most expensive yearling filly sold in Australia in 2023 when fetching $2.6million for Widden Stud at Inglis Easter, Clean Energy has been retired to stud.

By Zoustar from Solar Charged, Clean Energy ran in the Yulong colours and won three of six starts for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott including a famous victory over subsequent Group I star Lady Shenandoah in the Listed BRC Bill Carter Stakes.

She won the Group III MVRC Typhoon Tracy Stakes at three over 1200m and was last seen running third in the ATC James HB Carr Stakes during the autumn.

She was unplaced in a barrier trial at Hawkesbury last month with connections electing to retire the valuable mare to stud.

Clean Energy’s full sister Sunlight was the Champion 3YO Filly of her generation and has produced the stakes-winner Dawn Service and promising three year-old colt Central Coast as her first two foals and her third, a filly by Home Affairs, topped Magic Millions this year when selling for $3million and has been exported to Japan.

Yulong will be hoping for similar success with Clean Energy as her stud career unfolds.

Solar Charged recently turned 18 at Widden Stud and produced a colt last spring by Zoustar and is due to foal to him again.
