Wootton Bassett Juvenile G2 Double

Tara Madgwick - Sunday August 24

Wootton Bassett (GB) featured in Ireland overnight at The Curragh with two stakes-winning juveniles, Constitution River taking out the the Group II Futurity (7f), while the Group II Debutante (7f) went to the filly Composing, who comes from the family of Amelia’s Jewel.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan with Ryan Moore engaged at York,

Composing was a short priced favourite  for the Debutante following her last start win in the Group III Silver Flash Stakes last month.

She powered clear for an easy two and half length win and has now won three of four starts.

“She's a lovely straightforward filly and when she got there she was very laid-back and very professional,” said Aidan O’Brien.

“If all is well, the Moyglare (G1) is the plan.”

Composing was bought from the Ridge Manor Stud draft at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale Book 1 by MV Magnier for €300,000 and was bred by Renzo Forni.

She is the first foal of Group II winning mare Epona Plays, a half-sister by Epsom Derby winning sire Australia to Group III winner Dolce Strega and stakes-placed Bumbasina (IRE), who calls Australia home these days and is the dam of Group I winning $4.1million earner Amelia’s Jewel and Group III winning $2million earner Bosustow.

Amelia’s Jewel was offered at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale this year where she was bought by Tom Magnier for $3.8million.

Bumbasina had a yearling colt by Amelia’s Jewel’s sire Siyouni offered at Magic Millions this year in the Segenhoe Stud draft and he was snapped up by WA trainer Luke Fernie for $625,000.

Taking out the Group II Futurity was progressive colt Constitution River, who stepped up from a maiden win at Galway last month to score a dominant two length victory under Wayne Lordan at his third start.

He led and was much the best, galloping hard to the line to win by two lengths.

"He’d a lovely run first time and was still very green when he won the next day so we hoped there was more to come,” said Aidan O’Brien.

"Wayne gave him a lovely ride and he quickened very well.

"Obviously you have to look at the National Stakes (G1) with him. He’s going to be very happy going up in trip whenever that time comes."

Constitution River was bought from the Cadran draft at Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale by MV Magnier for €400,000.

He is the first foal of Chuppy, a placed sister to dual Group I winning mare Wonderful Tonight and half-sister to stakes-winner Penjade.

Wootton Bassett (GB) will be on show at Coolmore Australia on Sunday.

Constitution River is the 70th stakes-winner for Wootton Bassett, who is currently at Coolmore Australia at a fee of $385,000.

Wootton Bassett has sired 20 2YO winners in the Northern Hemisphere this year and six are stakes-winners.
