Artie 3YOs are Flying!

Tara Madgwick - Sunday August 17

Blue Gum Farm based Flying Artie has an exceptional crop of 3YOs to run for him this season conceived in 2021 after his top class colt Artorius win the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes and we saw one of them bolt in at Wyong on Sunday.

The John Sargent trained gelding Flying Orchid was having his second start following a facile debut win in June at Newcastle.

Ridden by Zac Lloyd, Flying Orchid was a hot favourite and made light work of the heavy ground to skip away and win the 1350m Benchmark 64 event over 1350m by more than three lengths.

Flying Orchid was passed in as a yearling and retained to race by Rheinwood Pastoral and is a half-brother to smart Hong Kong winner Orchid Road being the third winner from Orchid Beach, an unraced half-sister by Hinchinbrook to stakes-winner Insistence.

He is the third promising 3YO winner in the past couple of weeks for Flying Artie joining the Chris Waller trained pair of metro winners Skyglider and Sixties.

Flying Artie has had 30 lifetime runners so far from his current crop of 3YO’s and nine have won giving the promise of much better things to come as this season unfolds.

He represents terrific value at a fee of just $11,000.
