Aussie Globetrotting Mare Now Calls Woodside Home

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 5

Woodside Park have released a list of their quality mares set to visit new recruit Celestial Legend this spring and one of them is Aussie bred Group II winner Nafaayes, who produced a promising 2YO winner overnight in the UK.

Nafaayes was purchased at Inglis Chairman's Sale last year for $475,000 by Eddie Hirsch.

Bred by Kia Ora Stud and purchased by Shadwell at Inglis Easter in 2017 for $350,000, the Exceed and Excel filly from US Group winner Decelerator (USA) was sent race in South Africa.

She proved a great success winning a pair of Group II races and placing at Group I level before heading back to Europe to go to stud.

Nafaayes was offered by Shadwell at the 2022 Tattersalls December Mares Sale where she was bought by Olly Tait of Twin Hills Stud for 78,000 guineas.

She subsequently produced a filly by Blue Point for Tait that was sold at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale for 110,000 to Ballyphilip Stud, who subsequently re-offered her at Tattersalls October Book 1 where she was bought by Godolphin for 600,000 guineas.

Dandana was the second highest priced yearling by Blue Point at Tattersalls October Book 1 in 2024.

That Blue Point filly is now two year-old Dandana, who has had two starts for Simon and Ed Crisford winning both of them in the colours of Sultan Ali, most recently scoring overnight at Ripon over 6f by half a length.

Dandana  is the second living foal and first winner for Nafaayes, who was then sent out to Australia in foal to Kingman and offered at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale last year by Twin Hills Stud.

She was bought by Eddie Hirsch of Woodside Park for $475,000 and duly produced a Kingman colt for them last spring before visiting the farm’s young Dubawi shuttler Benbatl (GB).

Nafaayes is one of a long list of quality mares booked to Celestial Legend this spring, read the story here.
