The Novelist Returns to Form

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 2

The very first stakes-winner for his sire Written By when winning the Group III BRC BJ McLachlan Stakes in December 2022, The Novelist made light of the heavy 10 track at Rosehill on Saturday to claim another victory.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, The Novelist sustained an injury after his stakes win at two and missed the rest of his juvenile season.

It’s been a long slow road back since then with glimpses of his potential along the way including a second to Zarastro in the $1million Magic Millions Snippets in January this year.

The Novelist tuned up with a recent trial win against heavy hitters such as Via Sistina (IRE), Fangirl, Zardozi and Tom Kitten, so he found the Benchmark 94 event over 1300m on Saturdfay very much to his liking.

He led throughout for Adam Hyeronimus to win by three-quarters of a length and has the overall record of four wins from 15 starts with prizemoney in excess of $615,000.

A $110,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Glenlogan Park draft for Tricolours Racing & Syndications Pty Ltd/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, The Novelist has a big all women ownership group that have had plenty of fun with him and more to come.

Bred by Glenlogan Park, The Novelist is a half-brother to stakes-winner Fully Lit and is one of three winners from  three foals to race from Sunlit, a winning half-sister by Snitzel to Group II winner Vo Heart.

Sunlit produced a colt last spring by Zoustar and was then covered by I Am Invincible.
