Yarradale Stud has purchased Group 1 racehorse and sire Shooting To Win to cover his first book at its Gidgegannup property this season.
Yarradale owner Lyn Sayers and stud manager Davy Hanratty clinched the deal this week with Oakland Park owner Neville Duncan. “We’re delighted to stand Shooting To Win and Oakland Park has kept faith with multiple rights to him,” Hanratty said.
“He’s a good looking bull with a stallion’s pedigree and he’s also a proven Group 1 sire in Western Australia with Dom To Shoot in the Northerly Stakes. He turns 14 today so time is on his side, too. War Chant (USA) arrived from Kentucky at the same age and he served 12 books here.”
When the curtain came down on the 2024-25 season yesterday, Shooting To Win finished third on the WA table behind Playing God and Maschino with 71 winners of 130 races for prizemoney in excess of $5.20 million.
Shooting To Win has an overall career count of 278 individual winners at an elevated 66% strike-rate. He’s also one of only three stallions standing in WA this season to have sired multiple Group 1 winners alongside Playing God and Manhattan Rain.
“The other positive is that it opens a new door for our clients at a more central location closer to Perth,” Hanratty added. “And we’ve already had some success with Shooting To Win having bred his mares Platinum Shot and Wubin Gold.”
Platinum Shot has been a consistent performer for Pearce Racing winning five races and being placed on another dozen occasions for earnings of $192,000. Wubin Gold was bred by Yarradale in partnership with Dawson Stud and has won six times generating earnings over $310,000 for part-owner and trainer Colin Webster.
News of Shooting To Win’s new location will be the catalyst for more good news to start the season at Yarradale. Hanratty reports millionaire mare Dainty Tess (War Chant) is due to foal to Playing God at any tick of the clock.
She was trained by Dan Morton and Yarradale will send a new-season 2yo filly by Zoustar down to Morton’s Ascot yard on Monday. She’s out of Threeood (Smart Missile) and cost $600,000 at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. “They say buy the one you want and we didn’t want to go home without her,” Hanratty recalled. “We’re still debating her name and want it to be a good one because she’s already looking the goods.”
Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) is a Danehill-free full-brother to Deep Field and will stand for a $5,500 (inc GST) service fee with discounts for multiple bookings alongside Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) who also stands for $5,500 (inc GST).
