New G1 Winner for Too Darn Hot

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 28

Fresh from siring two new stakes-winners in Europe on Saturday Too Darn Hot (GB) kept the momentum going on Sunday with a new Group I winner and Tornado Alert is a half-brother to Just Fine (IRE), winner of the Group I ATC The Metropolitan in 2023.

A homebred for Godolphin, three year-old colt Tornado Alert was dispatched to Germany after a good last start second to Coolmore’s Dubawi colt Trinity College in the Group III Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Saaed bin Suroor trained colt lined up in the Group I München Grosser Dallmayr Preis (2000m) and ran out a commanding two and a half length winner over the classy Wathnan Racing runner Map of Stars from the in-form Francis- Henri Graffard stable.

It was only the second win for Tornado Alert from six starts, but he hasn’t shied away from the best this year finishing fourth in the Group I Newmarket 2000 Guineas and sixth in the Group I Epsom Derby before his Royal Ascot second.

“We were uncertain [about the soft ground] but Toronado Alert loved it. He's by Too Darn Hot out of a Kingmambo mare. He ran very well in the Derby, he was second at Royal Ascot; today he came to Munich and he was brilliant,” said winning rider Oisin Murphy.

Tornado Alert is the second Group I winner among five winners from Bint Almatar joining Just Fine (Sea the Stars), who became a Group I winner in Australia for the Waterhouse Bott stable.

Bint Almatar is a winning half-sister by Kingmambo to triple Group I winner Master of the Seas and Group III winner Falls of Lora, best known as the dam of Godolphin’s super popular Aussie trained runner Cascadian (GB), a four time Group I winner here with two VRC Australian Cup victories on his CV.

Tornado Alert is the fourth Group I winner for Too Darn Hot, who returns to Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $275,000.

He is a dominant leader of the Australia second crop sires division for this season.
