Lookalike Star Turn Colt Franks Hot Form Race

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 25

When Angel Ladder won the first race at Geelong coming out of the VRC Next Gen Series Sprinters Final won by Jimmy Recard, you would think punters would have looked closely at Redders in the following event coming out of the same race, but he slipped under their guard.

A chunky chestnut that is the very image of his sire Star Turn and his sire in turn Star Witness, Redders was sent off at 9-1 for the 1150m maiden with Zac Spain in the saddle.

Trained by Danny O’Brien as was his grand-sire Star Witness, Redders was given a positive ride and responded well. He led for home and kicked away to win by a length and a half and will take confidence from this stylish win at his fourth start.

A gross colt that would have needed racing to bring him to peak fitness, he should be worth following into better company.

Redders was a $230,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase.

A $230,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase for his trainer from the draft of Toolooganvale Farm as agent for Roona Lodge, Redders is the second winner from stakes-placed Ad Valorem (USA) mare Highly Geared.

Highly Geared was covered again last year by Star Turn so will produce a sibling to Redders in the spring.
