Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 20

Kia Ora Stud’s Farnan added a new winner to his tally on Sunday at Seymour where Blethyn saluted as a short priced favourite.

Trained by Matt Laurie and ridden by Jake Noonan, Blethyn appreciated a drop in grade from his last start fifth to Jimmy Recard in the VRC Next Gen Series Sprinters Final at Flemington.

Blethyn chimed in with a furlong to run and was eased down on the line to win the 1000m maiden against older rivals by more than a length.

“He put paid to the opposition very good on very soft ground, so it will be exciting to see what he can do on top of the ground. He accelerated well, has a beautiful action and a great demeanour and that should take him a long way,” said Jake Noonan.

A $120,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft, Blethyn is the second winner and final of just two foals from Repute, a half-sister by Denman to ill-fated Champion Australian 2YO Meurice.

He is the 12th winner for Golden Slipper winner Farnan, whose fee has been increased from $55,000 to $77,000 this spring.
