Big Investment Begins Paying Off

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 18

A big investment by Rosemont Stud at the 2021 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in purchasing Group III winning mare Khulaasa for $1.35million produced a dividend on Friday, but that’s just the beginning!

Purchased in foal to Too Darn Hot (GB) from the Shadwell Dispersal, Khulaasa produced a filly from the mating and three year-old Fitzalan broke her maiden at Albury today.

Retained by Rosemont and trained by Jason Warren, Fitzalan was second on debut at Wangaratta earlier this month and then scored by more than a length today in the 900m maiden as favourite.

Khulaasa has now had two foals to race and both are winners and she also has an unraced two year-old colt by I Am Invincible called Cisco that is in work with Annabel and Rob Archibald.

Khulaasa was bought for $1.35million.

Khulaasa came with a prolific Black Type pedigree being a half-sister to Group III winner Bulbula, dam of Rosemont Stud’s young G2 winning sire Doull, with the family also producing slick Group winning juvenile Lazzago, who was bought by Widden Stud and partners for $1.4million at the Magic Millions National Sale this year.

Rosemont took the decision to send Khulaasa to the Northern Hemisphere in 2023 after she missed to I Am Invincible and so far the plan is looking good.

She is now back in Australia along with a filly by champion French stallion Siyouni and is safely in foal to Too Darn Hot, who covered to Southern Hemisphere time in the UK last year for Darley.

Aryaaf was bought for $800,000.

When Rosemont bought Khulaasa back in 2021, they also bought her Group III winning three-quarter sister Aryaaf from the same Shadwell Dispersal for $800,000 straight off the track and her mother Bulbula for $1.35million.

Aryaaf produced a filly by Zoustar for Rosemont in her first season at stud and two year-old Odessa has shown good talent with fifth placings at her only starts and was not beaten far in the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude won by another Rosemont bred and raced filly in Palm Angel.

Aryaaf accompanied Khulaasa on her trip to Europe and achieved a similar outcome producing a foal by Siyouni and returning in foal to Too Darn Hot.

Bulbula was bought for $1.35million.

Bulbula unfortunately slipped the pregnancy she was carrying at the sale and has since produced a colt by Snitzel that was sold by Rosemont for $500,000 at Inglis Easter in 2024.

She had a filly last year by Starspangledbanner and was not covered so will be ready to go early this spring with Rosemont Stud’s new recruit Schwarz likely to cover all three of these well related stakes-winning mares.

This is a family being bred to the very best sires and has the potential to blossom in all directions over the next few years.
