Unbeaten Filly a New Stakes-Winner for Ghaiyyath

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 18

Darley shuttler Ghaiyyath (IRE) is not returning to Australia this year after four seasons at Darley Victoria, but he was in the news overnight with a new stakes-winner after his unbeaten three year-old filly Al Uqda won the Listed Vichy Prix Madame Jean Couturie (2000m).

A winner at two over 1500m, she was having her third start this year and kept her record at a perfect four for four when racing clear to win by tow lengths with Tony Piccone in the saddle.

She was bought by her trainer Alex Pantall for €85,000 at the Arqana October Yearling Sale and runs for Sheikh Abdulla Bin Khalifa Al Thani.

Al Uqda is the third stakes-winner for Ghaiyyath and is the first winner for Tampa Dream, a winning half-sister by Champs Elysees to Group II winner Equilateral from the family of Group I winners Cityscape, Logician and Whitebeam.

The oldest Aussie progeny of Ghaiyyath are two year-olds and he has two winners, both of them Godolphin homebreds in Crocodile and Observer.
