Brilliant Return for Record Priced Bivouac

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 16

Purchased for $675,000 at the Magic Millions from the Mill Park Stud draft by her trainer Ciaron Maher, talented two year-old filly Exit opened her account with a stylish win at Sandown on Wednesday.

The highest priced yearling by her sire Bivouac, Exit made her debut with a ninth in the Group II MRC Blue Diamond Prelude won by Palm Angel back in February.

Spelled immediately after that effort, Exit was making her first start since then in the 1300m open juvenile contest with Blake Shinn on board and punters expected a better showing this time and were duly rewarded.

Sent off favourite, she did her best work late hitting the line hard to catch another Bivouac filly in Expulsion to win by more than a length with ears pricked.

Blake Shinn believes she has spring stakes potential in line with her pedigree given she comes from the famed ‘Discreet’ family that has produced countless stakes performers.

“She is gorgeous filly with a good physical and a good brain. She was quite an expensive yearling and she's got a good pedigree, but that doesn't always account for everything,” said Shinn.

“She had a good debut at her first run (G2 Blue Diamond Prelude), although there's a ninth on the form guide, I thought her run had a lot of merit.

“She’s had a  bit of time between preparations and had trialled up nice. She relaxed early and had the benefit of the big straight here today and that helped her.

“She got to the front, idled down and won with a bit in hand, so ther is plenty of upside.”

Exit was bred by Mill Park in partnership and they retain a share in her ownership. She is the second foal and second winner from well bred Lonhro mare Secretly Discreet, a winning half-sister to Group II winner Too Darn Discreet from Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Maybe Discreet.

“I think she's got scope to get out to a mile as her pedigree suggests and she could be on a Thousand Guineas type of path,” Shinn added.

“You often see horses in the back end of winter come here and some good horses can come out of it and I think she'll be one of them.”

“She's got a great demeanor about her and a good constitution, and she's in the right camp, so they will point her in the right direction.”

Exit was a $675,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Exit is the sixth winner for Bivouac, who has already sired three stakes-winners in Beiwacht, Intention and Luana Miss. The champion son of Exceed and Excel stands at Darley NSW at a fee of $55,000 this spring.
