Oh Diamond Lil Dazzles at Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 12

Progressive mare Oh Diamond Lil stepped up to 1600m for the first time this preparation at Randwick on Saturday and it proved very much to her liking as she scored a bold front running win in the Benchmark 78 event.

A work in progress for Warwick Farm trainer David Pfieffer, Oh Diamond Lil has a great strike rate and was primed for success after a second at the same track last month.

Rated well in front by Jason Collett, she repelled a late challenge from smart three year-old Puntin to win by three-quarters of a length taking her overall record to five wins and five placings from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $360,000.

“She got a such good rhythm today and just bowled along and ran them off their feet,” said Pfieffer.

“She runs those nice sections where they should stop, but I think that really suits her and allows here to find that rhythm. I think that's her attribute, Just that nice rolling tempo. She's a big mare with a big stride on her.

“I think she's still got more improving to go next preparation, but we'll just keep stepping through the grades at this stage.”

Oh Diamond Lil was a $200,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Maluka Thoroughbreds for David Pfieffer Racing / Koolman Bloodstock and is one of four winners from five to race from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Rare Diamond, who died in 2023 and her last foal is a yearling colt by So You Think.

So You Think is riding high this season with 157 winners of $12.3million including seven stakes-winners headed by his Group I Queensland Oaks winner You Wahng.

So You Thinks stands at a fee of $44,000 at Coolmore this spring.
