$1m Inglis Ready 2Race Sale-Topper Goes Two for Two

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 12

The most expensive breeze up horse ever sold in Australia when selling for $1million at the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last year, Written Tycoon filly Signature Scent made it two wins in as many starts when saluting at Caulfield on Saturday.

Bred and sold initially by Yulong at Inglis Easter for $200,000 to Dean Harvey’s Baystone Farm, she went back to the sales at two and was offered by Baystone, bought back by Yulong for $1million and given to Ciaron Maher.

A big scopey filly, Signature Scent has been given plenty of time and won her debut at Bendigo last month with punters rallying to send her out favourite for the 1100m juvenile contest on Saturday with Craig Williams to ride.

She settled behind the leader and when angled into the clear unwound a good finish to run down Peltzer filly Thanks Gorgeous to win by a length.

Signature Scent is the fifth winner from five foals to race from dual Group I winning Savabeel mare Soriano, who comes from a quality New Zealand staying family that has also produced Group I NZ Derby winner Rocket Spade.

Soriano won nine races up to 2100m and her dam Call Me Lily was also a stakes-winner that won up to 2100m.

Given her pedigree that mixes the speed of Written Tycoon with some pretty stout Kiwi staying blood, the future for Signature Scent in terms of distance range might be a case of trial and error.

"We've done a gene test on her and we're waiting on that to come back, and that might give us a lead as to what other races it may lead to," said stable representative Leigh Allen.

"But at this stage I would say we keep her around the same trip.

"There is the Quezette Stakes (G3) here in a month, but we'll have a look to see what else is around for her as a three-year-old, but at this stage it is likely to be the Quezette."

Her dam Soriano produced a colt by Written Tycoon last spring and is now in foal to Alabama Express.
