One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 10

Capitalist had a double of debut winning two year-olds at Gosford on Thursday both prepared by Peter Snowden and while the expensive colt Caesar got the job done, it was the filly that really had people talking.

A homebred for Emirates Park that was passed in at Inglis Easter and retained, Nazwah showed plenty of pace in a recent barrier trial and was sent off as favourite with Tom Sherry on board for the 1100m maiden for fillies and mares.

She mustered quickly from barrier one to work through and take the lead and by the time they turned for home Nazwah was sailing along in front by more than a length.

Her rivals made zero impression as the fleet footed chestnut drew right away to win by three lengths, running quicker time than Caesar.

Nazwah is a half-sister to Group I SAJC Robert Sangster Stakes winner Charm Stone and stakes-winner Najmaty being the fifth winner from five foals to race from Group III winning Northern Meteor mare Najoom.

Nazwah couldn't find a buyer at Inglis Easter, but is a beautiful filly with a big pedigree.

It’s an outstanding female family going back to Gainesville (Can) with third dam Joleur a sister to blue hen Mica’s Pride, the dam of Group I winners Criterion and Comin’ Through.

Emirates Park sold an I Am Invincible filly from Najoom at Inglis Easter this year for $425,000 to Peter Snowden/Trilogy Racing/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA).

Najoom had no foal last year after missing to Justify (USA) and is now in foal to Tassort.

Nazwah is the 16th 2YO winner this season (one in NZ) for Capitalist and they include Group III winner Memo , stakes-winner To Cap It All and four more stakes-placed horses.

Capitalist stands at a fee of $44,000 at Newgate Farm this spring.
