Debut Win for Expensive Capitalist 2YO

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 10

An $800,000 Magic Millions purchase from Attunga Stud for the James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership, Capitalist colt Caesar was the highest priced yearling by his sire sold in 2024 and made a winning debut at Gosford on Thursday.

Trained by Peter Snowden, Caesar first appeared at the trials in May winning at Randwick and then followed up with another trial win last month before heading off to the races for an 1100m maiden.

Sent off a short priced favourite with Jason Collett to ride, Caesar did his best work over the final furlong, knuckling down to the task to win by three-quarters of a length.

Bred by Bob Hannon, Caesar is a half-brother to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Shaquero and is the seventh winner from eight foals to race from terrific producer Fimatino.

Caesar was an $800,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase.

Fimatino and her mother Finito Fling were also bred by Bob Hannon and the family has been a good one producing Cox Plate winning sire Shamus Award and stakes-winner Insurrection, who has won over $900,000 in prizemoney.

Fimatino had a filly by I Am Invincible sell for $460,000 at Magic Millions this year and she had a filly last year by Home Affairs before unfortunately missing to Capitalist.

Caesar is the 15th 2YO winner this season (one in NZ) for Capitalist and they include Group III winner Memo , stakes-winner To Cap It All and four more stakes-placed horses.

Capitalist stands at a fee of $44,000 at Newgate Farm this spring.
