One to Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Thursday July 3

Super Seth has had three G1 winners in Australia this season and John O’Shea and Tom Charlton have trained two of them, so when they produce a lightly raced maiden winner by this exciting young sire we want to know more.

Godolphin had a short priced favourite in the 1300m maiden at Hawkesbury in Cinsault, but she was forced into yet another minor placing when Super Seth colt Cross Tasman proved a tough adversary.

She loomed up to win and did hit the front, but Cross Tasman under strong riding from Kerrin McEvoy forged clear to win by half a length.

Cross Tasman was a $260,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for  John O'Shea Racing / Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA) and runs for Finemore Thoroughbreds and partners with Waikato stud also retaining an interest.

Cross Tasman was a $260,000 K1 purchase.

Cross Tasman is a half-brother to three Group and stakes-placed horses and is the fourth winner from Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Daffodil, a triple Group I winner that was also Champion NZ 3YO of her generation.

A Caulfield Guines winning son of Dundeel, Super Seth has made a startling beginning to his stud career with four G1 winners on the board already in Linebacker and Maison Louis, trained by O’Shea and Charlton, as well as Feroce and the Kiwi trained 2YO La Dorada.

Super Seth stands at a fee of $75,000 at Waikato Stud and with the farm’s stalwart Savabeel turning 24 this year his emergence could not have come at a better time.
