Nice 2YO Winner for Vinery Value Sire

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 25

He might be the least expensive sire on the Vinery roster this spring at a fee of just $6,600, but Headwater gets his share of winners and produced a new two year-old winner at Doomben on Wednesday.

Trained by Stuart Kendrick, Blitzwater was fourth on debut at Doomben three weeks ago and took benefit from that outing.

Ridden by Jake Bayliss, she hit the line full of running to win the 1100m maiden by half a length.

Kendrick felt trainer error contributed to her defeat first up when she backed up a little quickly from her previous trial, but he was more than happy with what he saw today and believes more wins are in store.

Blitzwater was a savvy purchase through Inglis Digital.

Blitzwater was a savvy Inglis Digital purchase for Kendrick Racing in eptember 2023, snapped up as a yearling for just $7,500 when offered by Vinery Stud on behalf of a client looking to downsize.

She is the third winner from three foals to race from minor winning I Am Invincible mare Invincible Dream, a grand-daughter of stakes-winner La Nikita.

A Group II winning son of Exceed and Excel, Headwater is a well proven source of winners and better class winners with nine stakes-winners among his list of 240 plus lifetime winners that come at 62% winner to runner.

He has sired 100 winners this season across all regions and they include stakes-winners London’s Image and Manhood, plus stakes placed horses Tristate, Strait Acer and Thespian Waters, so at $6,600 Headwater is a great choice for the budget conscious breeder..
