G1 Tatts Tiara – Where Are They Now?

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 24

The last Group I race of the Australian racing season, the $700,000 Tatts Tiara (1400m) will be run this Saturday and as a fillies and mares feature the winner is often headed straight to stud, so we’re taking a look at where these girls are at.

The race was first run at G1 level in 2007 and the winner that year Nova Star passed away in 2023, but the mares that have followed include some interesting names and the winners in recent times have proven to be sale ring gold.

Winning a G1 race does not necessarily translate to success at stud and for some of these mares there has been a downward trajectory and an interesting one is Srikandi, who was bought by Tom Magnier for $2million back in 2019.

She was given every opportunity at Coolmore and has had five named foals, four have raced and three have won, but she was duly on-sold through Inglis Digital last year for $160,000 to Ben Kwok and is now in New Zealand.

Change of scene and a new partner in Group I winner Profondo might change the fortunes of Srikandi, who was an outstanding racemare that also won the Stradbroke and is by world champion sire Dubawi.

Palaisipan is another interesting one as she was purchased by Katsumi Yoshida just prior to her Tatts Tiara win and duly won the race in his colours, so we may have expected to see her exported straight to Japan, but that has not been the case.

She has remained at Arrowfield Stud and after missing to Maurice (Jpn) in her first season appears to be in foal to Zoustar.
