Rocksetta Strings Two Together

Media Release - Thursday April 19

gavelhouse Australia graduate Rocksetta  has now strung two wins together for Roma-based trainer Craig Smith.

RocksettaOff the back of a mighty 3.3L win at Rockhampton, banking $9,100 earlier this month in his first start for his new connections, he returned to the scene on Wednesday with another good winning margin, this time over 1600m.

Winner of the iconic Birdsville Cup last year with Fast Fella, trainer Craig Smith thinks Rocksetta might be a chance of defending the stable's title this year but will continue to allow him to quietly work through the grades before setting a plan in stone.

Smith has currently has 32 horses in work at his Roma base and with attractive prize-money at both country TAB and provincial meetings in the vast region, they are prepared to travel to reap the rewards with the Roma to Rockhampton trip a five hour journey " The routine for race day is to leave Romaat 3:30am, arrive at Rockhampton at about 8:30am and have a freshen up at some friend's stables off course," Smith commented.

"By the time we get home it's usually around 9:30pm but he has settled in well here and is a cool, calm customer so he takes it all in his stride."

"He licked the feed bin clean when he got home and had four hours out on some grass the next morning and came back in to the stable full of himself."

Purchased for $12,000 from Mark Kavanagh Racing, the son of Fastnet Rock was syndicated among a happy group of stable clients " We paid $12,000 for him and then the truck trip up here from Victoria was about $1,500."

"His owners have raced plenty of horses over many years, and most of them have barely had a winner and now they've had a double win with one horse."

"They are all over the moon!"
