Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 20

It’s a busy time of year for late season juveniles looking get a run on the board before they turn three and eight heats at the Rosehill trials on Friday were won by two year-olds including some unraced youngsters by gun first season sires Wootton Bassett (GB), Ole Kirk and Farnan.

There have been a lot of expensive Wootton Bassett (GB) 2YO winners this season, but this Annabel and Rob Archibald trained gelding Marchon was purchased for a pretty modest sum in context.

He’s been given time and gelded and this was his first public appearance and it was a good one as he powered to the line from last before the turn to win his heat by half a length.

A $230,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Annabel Neasham Racing / William Johnson Bloodstock  from the Coolmore draft, he is the first foal of Group III placed Deep Field mare Marchena, and he does have a fair bit of the Deep Field look about him, so time will be his friend.

Team Hawkes guided the career of Champion 3YO Colt Ole Kirk and they produced his son Designer to win his heat by a length. It was his second trial and first this prep after finishing unplaced in the first one back in February and he is now a gelding.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from North for Bevan Smith Bloodstock/Andrew Williams Bloodstock, Designer runs in the Vinery Stud colours for a big group of interesting partners.

He is the second foal of metro winning Snitzel mare Pop Girl, a daughter of Group III placed import Music Review (GB).

The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained Farnan filly Fornelli was having her first ever trial and was allowed to find her feet early, but when asked to get going after turning for home she gave a good response and warmed to the task doing her best work to the line to win by a head.

A $250,000 Magic Millions purchase from Glenlogan Park for John O’Shea Racing/ James Bester Bloodstock, Fornelli runs in the Segenhoe colours with numerous other partners involved.

Fornelli is the third foal of Group III placed Teofilo (IRE) mare Asinara, whose first two foals are both winners.

Additional winners were: Caesar (Capitalist), Leading Impact (Zousain), Kiss Goodnight (Written Tycoon), Magical Star (Exceed and Excel), Lambertina (Blue Point (IRE).
