Yulong Swoop on $1.3million Mare in Foal to Extreme Choice

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 28

There are five mares to be offered in foal to Extreme Choice at the Magic Millions National Sale on Wednesday and the first of them was Group placed Pins mare Finepoint (NZ).

A quality mare with a big Black Type pedigree as a half-sister to Group III winner Serious Satire from Group II winner Zarzuela, whose dam is Group I winner Star Satire, Finepoint was always going to make plenty of appeal with a positive test to Extreme Choice.

Finepoint sold for $1.3million in foal to Extreme Choice.

Offered in the Newgate Consignment, she was bought for $1.3million by Yulong, who have  had a nice taste of what Extreme Choice can deliver this season as he is the sire of their Group I MRC Blue Diamond winning colt Devil Night.

“She was a beautiful physical and I think the mating will really suit her,” said Sam Fairgray of Yulong.

“She was a nice big mare with good length about her and quality and Extreme Choice probably just needs a mare with that.

“She’s free of Danehill, there are a lot of stakes winners on the page.”

Looking to the future and Fairgray speculated Growing Empire might be a good match in the spring .

“We try and look at a mare and see where we’re likely to send her and she’s a mare that we might send to Growing Empire,” he said.

“Physically she’ll suit him. There’s a few nice crosses there and the pedigree, so that’s the likely mating for her.”
