Widden Purchase MM 2YO Classic Winner for $1.35million

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 27

Widden Stud were active at the top end as a vendor at the Magic Millions National Sale on Tuesday and also as a buyer securing Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Skirt the Law for $1.35million.

Skirt the Law sold for $1.35million.

A gorgeous individual by Better Than Ready that made $130,000 at Magic Millions as a yearling when bought by Gollan Racing/John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA)/Black Soil Bloodstock from Lyndhurst Stud, Skirt the Law was a fast and natural early juvenile.

Consigned today by Eureka Stud, she won over $1.7million on the track in the care of Tony Gollan and while  the ride has not always been smooth for her large group of all women owners, they are all delighted with the outcome today.

“We didn’t think she was going to go that high,” said Brian Siemsen of Black Soil Bloodstock.

“We were hoping for seven figures and we were saying this morning that a lot of these ladies have never owned a racehorse before and now they’ve have a horse what won three-in-a-row, wins the Magic Millions, won $2.7 million on the track and now sells for $1.3 million, they’re going to hang their boots up after this.

“She got to a million pretty quickly to be honest. We thought $800,000 to $900,000 would be the go. When she got to a million, we knew she was on the market.

“Going unreserved was a bit risky but we knew she was going to hold her value.

“You would think that these girls have invested $177,000 for a $3 million return, and won a Magic Millions and a ladies bonus.

“We’ve had problems with her over the last couple of years to try and get her up and everyone has tried to get her back and Tony has done an incredible job and to finish up on that note, it takes us back to winning the Magic Millions.”

Skirt the Law has a quality pedigree being from a stakes-placed half-sister to Group I winner Masked Crusader.
