One to Watch-Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 22

She’s leaving her run a bit late, but the full sister to last week’s Listed VRC Andrew Ramsden Stakes winner Basilinna may have a shot at the Group I BRC Queensland Oaks.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly Shangri La Impact has been quick to make an impact in her first racing campaign with placings at Kembla and Canterbury followed by a maiden win at Hawkesbury on May 10 over 2000m.

With a field decimated by scratchings, the daughter of Staphanos (Jpn) was a short priced favourite to win a three horse race at Goulburn and duly saluted.

She won the 2100m Benchmark 64 event by nearly two lengths for Regan Bayliss and connections will no doubt give consideration to a trip to Queensland.

A $60,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale purchase from the Westbury Stud draft for Shangri-La Consulting (Australia) Pty Ltd, Shangri La Impact is a full sister to classy stayer Basilinna.

A place-getter in the Group I VRC Oaks at three, Basilinna is assured of a start in this year’s Melbourne Cup after scoring a stylish win in the Listed VRC Andrew Ramsden at Flemington last weekend over a competitive field of Cup hopefuls.

Shangri La Impact is the third winner from Group III placed Shinko King (IRE) mare So Royal, who comes from the family of Champion 3YO Sir Silver Lad.

Staphanos (Jpn) is a Group winning son of Deep Impact.

She is another promising type for Novara Park based Staphanos, who is also the sire of another Queensland Oaks contender in Movin’ Out.

The Chris Waller trained filly has been a busy girl winning the Mornington Guineas before finishing fifth in the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks and she has accepted for the Group II BRC Doomben Roses this Saturday.
