$1million Magic Millions National 2YO Classic Friday Night

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 22

Purchasing a yearling from Magic Millions opens the door to a lifetime of lucrative options for an owner and one of them comes up on Friday evening at the Gold Coast, so who are the key players?

The race has attracted a full field of 12 plus emergencies all set to contest the $1million MM National 2YO Classic (1000m).

While the race is largely a local affair with the bulk of runners prepared in Queensland there are some interstate raiders and they include a couple of the well fancied horses in Prince Tycoon from the Busuttin Young stable and blueblood I Am Invincible filly Sisstainable.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, who won the inaugural running of this race last year with Arabian Summer, Sisstainable showed potential in her first three starts before casting off maiden status with an impressive win at Eagle Farm earlier this month.

Sisstainable was a $450,000 MM purchase from Widden Stud.

She is also the most expensive runner being from Group III winner Sisstar, the full sister to Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight.

Written Tycoon gelding Prince Tycoon was a debut winner at Caulfield on May 10 over 1100m prompting connections to chase the big prize and with Blake Shinn to ride he deserves respect, but a wide gate is hardly a positive.

One of the key local runners is the Liam Birchley trained Invader filly Amosu, who won the $500,000 Magic Millions Debut in January over the same course and distance and her only run since was a sixth in the Listed BRC Dalrello Stakes.

Soft draw and Craig Williams  to ride, puts her right in the picture.

The only stakes-winner in the field is Dracarys filly Dragonne Rouge, who won the Listed BRC Calway Gal Stakes at her most recent outing over 1200m, so will be dropping back in trip as she lines up for her fourth race start.

Dragonne Rouge was a $25,000 MM Gold Coast March Yearling purchase and is the lone stakes-winner in the field.

Her trainer Shaun Dwyer knows what he’s doing, so will be sure to have her fresh to fire and with Andrew Mallyon on board again she’s a great chance of coming out of this race the way she went in… undefeated!

Kelly Schweida has already won a $1million sales race this year having taken out the $1million Inglis Sprint for 3YO’s in Melbourne with three year-old filly El Morzillo and he will saddle her two year-old half-brother by Zousain at the Gold Coast.

Guac On was a $110,000 Magic Millions purchase and is one of two in the race sold by Widden Stud.

Guac On has had three starts winning the past two at Doomben and Ipswich, so has race fitness on his side.
