New 2YO Winner for Brutal

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 21

Promising young sire Brutal has had a flurry of winners since the start of May and added a new juvenile winner to the tally at Ipswich on Wednesday when the Kelly Schweida trained colt Brutal Glory saluted.

Having his second start in the 1200m maiden, Brutal Glory did best in a tight finish to win by a head for Michael Rodd improving on his debut fourth at the same track last month.

Schweida saddled three runners in the race and two were by Brutal with Brutal Glory clearly the best of the trio.

“This horse ran well the other day when Michael said he had to do a lot of work,” said Kelly Schweida.

“He thought he’d be better off if he box-seated and he got away with it”

The heavy track was a query, but Schweida was confident on that score.

“I thought he would handle it. Especially being out of a Sebring mare and it being race one. It was good to get a win for the owners,” he said.

Brutal Glory was a $135,000 Magic Millions purchase.

A $135,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Raheen Stud for Noel Fuller, Brutal Glory was bred by the Nolan family and is the second winner from placed Sebring mare Spring Glory, a full sister to Group III winner Kiss a Rose.

Spring Glory died in 2023 and her last foal is a yearling colt by Pierata that was also offered by Raheen Stud at Magic Millions and bought by Noel Fuller for $125,000.

Brutal Glory is the fourth juvenile winner this season for Brutal, whose star two year-old Nepotism won the Group I ATC Champagne Stakes.

Brutal stands at Newgate this spring at a fee of $16,500.
