Wootton Bassett Stallion Back in Winning Form

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 19

A Group I winner at two and then a Group winner again last year at three, Wootton Bassett colt Bucanero Fuerte was retired to stud at the end of last year, but after hitting a hurdle with his fertility was returned to training.

Bucanero Fuerre got no mares in foal ay Tally Ho Stud, with his owner Amo Racing taking the decision to send him back into work and he duly returned with a first up win in the Listed Sole Power Sprint (5f) at Naas in Ireland overnight.

Trained by Adrian Murray and ridden by David Egan, it was the Bucanero Fuerte of old as he strode clear to win by a length and three-quarters.

“It was great for us to see him coming back but I suppose from a breeding point of view, it was disappointing,” said Adrian Murray.

“He’s really showed up today, we were on a fact-finding mission to see whether he was going to train on and for sure, he was brilliant.”

Bucanero Fuerte is looking towards a race at Cork in three weeks and possibly the Group I Nunthorpe Stakes, but Royal Ascot is not in the mix.

Pedigree.

Purchased for €165,000 from the Arqana August Deauville Yearling Sale by Robson Aguiar, Bucanero Fuerte runs in the Amo Racing colours.

He is a full brother to Wootton Bassett’s Group I winning sprinter Wooded (IRE), who shuttles to Swettenham Stud in Victoria.

Bucanero Fuerte is also a full brother to Group III place Beat le Bon being one of four winners from good producer Frida la Blonde, a sibling to stakes-winners Fred Lalloupet and Mon Pote le Gitan.

Wootton Bassett (GB) stands at a fee of $385,000 in Australia this year.
