One to Watch – Mornington

Tara Madgwick - Monday May 12

Godolphin would have had high expectations for a filly foal born in 2021 by Too Darn Hot (GB) from their 2014 Champion Australian 2YO Earthquake.

Unlike her mum, it’s taken time for three year-old Trembles to break the ice, but she did so in impressive fashion at Mornington on Monday at her second race start.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Trembles made her debut in Adelaide last year with an encouraging third in the Listed SAJC Without Fear Stakes, but has been off the scene for a year since then.

Sent out in a 1000m maiden as the only juvenile against a field of three year-olds, she treated them with contempt, dashing clear to win by four lengths with Jye McNeil on board.

“With barrier one the most important part was the beginning and she got away to a good start and from there it was just about controlling her speed and she as much too classy for them today,” said McNeil.

Trembles is a half-sister to Group II placed Sumatra and stakes-placed Namazu being the fiftjh winner from six foals to race from Exceed and Excel’s brilliant daughter Earthquake, who won the Group I MRC Blue Diamond and was second in the Golden Slipper.

Earthquake produced a filly by Pinatubo (IRE) last year and is now in foal to Anamoe.
