With three wins from six starts, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr trained colt won his only two starts at the back end of last season in the winter.

He returned in the spring to win the Group II VRC Danehill Stakes beating another Capitalist colt in Reserve Bank, who has blossomed in the past month to win the Group I SAJC The Goodwood.

In two subsequent starts he failed to produce his true level of talent and has duly been retired.

First Settler was a $750,000 Magic Millions purchase from Baramul Stud and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Vienna Princess from the family of Group I winning sire Casino Prince and high class two year-old and promising young sire Best of Bordeaux.

“On the track, he had blistering speed and toughness, and he’s exactly the type of athletic, precocious horse that breeders love,” said Sam Fairgray.
