Eighth Stakes Winner For The Autumn Sun

Dane Squance - Saturday May 10

With just one win from her prior twenty starts, many may have questioned why Private Legacy has been in Adelaide for her last few starts, but that question was clearly answered on Saturday when the 4yo daughter of The Autumn Sun recorded success in the Listed Centaurea Stakes (2017m).

Arguably her best performance came at the same track just over twelve months back when going down narrowly in the Group 1 Australasian Oaks where she formed part of a history-making trifecta for her Arrowfield Stud-based sire with Vibrant Sun winning the race and Coco Sun taking third before winning the Group 1 South Australian Derby at her next start against the boys.

Grahame Begg’s She’s A Hustler (Ace High) started the short-priced favourite in the small eight-horse field off the back of four wins from her last five starts and throughout the run she travelled sweetly and looked as if she would be very hard to beat.

As the favourite took the lead in the home straight, and many punters started to line up to collect, the Gregory Hickman trained Private Legacy came along the inside, pulling clear to win by more than a length in a half from the favourite in what ended up being a soft win for jockey Ben Melham.

Finishing in third position was the consistent Andrew Gluyas trained Seeking Stardom (Tosen Stardom), a last start third in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes.

Purchased from the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale draft of Arrowfield Stud for just $90,000 by her trainer, connections now have a valuable broodmare commodity on their hands.

Private Legacy is the third and final foal of the prodigiously talented Husson (ARG) mare Private Secretary, who Hickman also trained, and many of her owners have an interest in Private Legacy.

Private Secretary was herself quick off the mark when starting her race career, winning four of her first five starts and ended her career with eight wins from 23 starts which includes multiple stakes placed efforts.

Private Legacy became the 8th stakes winner for The Autumn Sun

One of eight individual stakes winners for The Autumn Sun which is headed by Group 1 winners Coco Sun, Vibrant Sun and Autumn Angel, the Arrowfield Stud based son of Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice will stand at a fee of $66,000 (inc. GST) in the spring.
