Record-breaking Sydney Breeding Stock Sales Series concludes

Media Release - Friday May 9

Today’s Australian Broodmare Sale concluded a record-breaking Sydney Breeding Stock Sales Series which ended with unprecedented metrics across the board with the highlight today a mare sold in foal to exciting young sire Ole Kirk.

On a big week at Riverside:

*A record gross of $77,060,150 has been traded between the Australian Weanling Sale, Chairman’s Sale and Australian Broodmare Sale, smashing through the previous record of $65,973,000 set in 2023

*The Australian Weanling Sale resulted in a record gross ($19,309,150) and record individual top price ($775,000), reasserting itself as the leading foal sale in the country

*The Chairman’s Sale also saw extraordinary growth and a series of outstanding results; a record gross ($54,430,000), record average ($706,883), record top price ($4.2m) and record number of $1m+ lots (14).

Zelify was the top seller on Friday in foal to Ole Kirk.

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch was ecstatic with the success of the week.

“To gross over $11m more than the record for this week of sales is really quite incredible, let alone the fact turnover increased $17.5m year-on-year off what was a very successful series of sales last year too,’’ Hutch said.

“It really has been a week we dream about – fabulous catalogues, enthusiastic buyers, happy vendors and a great spectacle all round.

“The amount of people who have said that Thursday night’s Chairman’s Sale was the best horse sale they’d ever been to in their lives, it’s very satisfying for the entire Inglis team who work exceptionally hard to ensure our clients have a memorable experience when doing business with us.

“A mention must go to the connections of both Bella Nipotina and Amelia’s Jewel, to have been entrusted by them to sell their darling mares was truly a great honour and to achieve special results with them both was something our whole team got incredible satisfaction from.

“I can’t stress enough how grateful we are to all the vendors, breeders, owners and buyers who have supported the week and made such positive results possible, it’s something we don’t take lightly and we are looking forward to working with vendors to achieve more outstanding results through the balance of 2025 and into 2026.’’

Today’s Australian Broodmare Sale top lot was the young mare Zelify (Snitzel), in foal to leading first season sire Ole Kirk.

The Lime Country Thoroughbreds-offered mare (pictured) was purchased by Omen Thoroughbreds for $280,000.

“It’s been a great week for us,’’ Lime Country’s Jo Griffin said.

“This mare today, we brought her to this sale to stand out and she certainly did that.

“She was part of our trading partnership and unfortunately that’s the way it is, we have to roll them through as part of the agreement every two to three years. We’ve got a lovely Pierro filly out of her that we’ll be offering [next] year.

“Earlier in the week we sold all our foals and we only brought good foals here. I’m very happy. Being in NSW, for us personally with the foals we like to keep them here for travel purposes and ease on them and we were well rewarded.’’
