$3.8Million Amelia’s Jewel - Next Stop Kentucky

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 8

The Inglis Chairman’s Sale concluded with one of the highlight lots of the night when Group I winning $4million earner Amelia’s Jewel sold for $3.8million to Tom Magnier.

Consigned by Segenhoe Stud, who foaled and raised Amelia’s Jewel for her owner breeder Peter Walsh, the star mare by champion French sire Siyouni was always going to be popular.

She is a half-sister to Group I placed stakes-winner Bosustow from a half-sister to a couple European Group winners and while she is a Group I winner of the WATC Northerly Stakes, her win in the Group II MVRC Stock Stakes beating Pride of Jenni in course record time stamped her as exceptional.

Tom Magnier purchased three mares at this sale with Amelia’s Jewel the most expensive above Estriella and Tiz Invincible for $2.8million each.

While Estriella and Tiz Invincible are pencilled in to be covered by Wootton Bassett (GB), Amelia’s Jewel will be needing her passport.

“She needs no introduction and again, we're delighted to get her,” said Tom Magnier

“We are going to send her to America to go to Justify. So that would be the plan with her.

“Justify is obviously like Wootten Basset in that he is doing it in so many places and we're delighted with that.

“She'll be covered to Southern Hemisphere time this year.”

There is more to come from this family as Amelia’s Jewel’s dam Bumbasina (IRE) produced a full sister to her last year and is now in foal to Zoustar.
