$2.8million for Estriella

Tara Madgwick - Thursday May 8

Tom Magnier loves his I Am Invincible mares and having earlier tonight secured Tiz Invincible for $2.8million at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale, he paid the same amount for her Group II winning stablemate Estriella, who is by the same sire.

Again consigned by her trainer Ciaron Maher, Estriella is one of those mares that probably always showed more ability than her race record suggests although a Group II win on the resume and prizemoney of $1.4million is good reading.

Purchased originally at Inglis Easter from Arrowfield by her trainer for $750,000, Estriella was raced by Kevin and Vikki Payne, who have had a great pay day tonight.

Estriella is from a family Tom Magnier knows well as her dam Madrigals is a full sister to Coolmore’s Golden Slipper winning sire Pierro.

“Fair play to Ciaron Maher and the team. We saw her in the barn there two days ago, and, you know, the word ‘queen’ kind of comes to mind when you see a mare like her, but all the right people liked her and all the good judges were on her,” Magnier said.

“We've got some very good people that are coming in in these mares with us and they are great supporters of the farm.

“There's an option for her to go back into training and see what she could do up in Queensland, before maybe coming back to the farm for the breeding season, but we'll have a chat with everybody and a chat with Ciaron, but no decision has been made.”
